This
1/4" (.25) scale miniature sculpture depicts a trio of
Common Loons; an adult with two juveniles. The entire
carving is created from a single piece of Tupelo, having
been carved down from the top of the block of wood, with no
inserts or laminated wood.
Each feather is individually carved into each loon. The
piece is entitled, "Hide & Seek" because while they are
juveniles, the common loon will often lay down upon the
water to "hide"
from predators, and they will also "seek"
food from its parent.
There are glass eyes inserted into each loon, and the entire
carving is hand painted in acrylics. The water is sealed
with polyurethane.
There is felt on the bottom of
the base which is has been signed and dated with a wood
burner.
The collector who purchases this sculpture will also receive
a copy of Wildfowl Carving Magazine's 1997 Competition
Magazine in which this piece was included, having won 1st
place in the Sea Bird category, and 2nd Best in Show
overall, at the annual
Pacific Flyway Decoy Association's (PFDA) Wildfowl Arts
Festival held in Sacramento, California.
